Commercial Property Solicitor

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY SOLICITOR

Carson McDowell’s Real Estate Team is ranked Band 1 in Chambers and Partners UK and is recognised as a leader in the Northern Ireland market place, providing advice to clients on all aspects of property law.

Due to a substantial growth in major instructions, there is now an opportunity for experienced solicitors at all levels to join the leading Real Estate team in Northern Ireland. You will join a busy and successful team, of 5 Partners and 11 Fee Earners, that has an excellent reputation for providing comprehensive advice on complex real estate acquisitions, developments, sales, lettings and portfolio management.

Our team understands the issues concerning our clients, whether they are landlords, tenants, investors, developers or corporate-end users. The team increasingly works as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team on complex transactions, drawing advice from other specialisms across the firm such as the corporate, environmental, construction, dispute resolution and regulatory teams to ensure that our clients enjoy a full and seamless service at all times. The team has also developed a strong reputation for development work and has been involved in major infrastructure, education, leisure and entertainment projects as well as having a particularly strong presence in the energy sector.

Candidates will have a minimum of 4 Years’ PQE working on a wide range of real estate matters within a medium-sized or large firm, but interest would also be welcomed from those with longer experience. You must have excellent academics and be keen to work as part of a busy team.

Finance Assistant (Full Time)

This role reports to the Financial Accountant and is responsible for supporting the Finance Director and Accountant with daily financial responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Cashiering:

  • Maintaining current and accurate bank account records
  • Reconciling bank accounts (daily)
  • Keying/co-authorising electronic payments
  • Liaising with Branch banking teams and professional staff

Purchase Ledger:

  • Inputting purchase ledger invoices
  • Reconciling supplier’s ledger accounts to statements
  • Preparing supplier payments

Nominal & Client Ledgers

  • Maintaining accurate client transaction information
  • Preparation of Nominal analysis

Billing

  • Inputting client bills to computer system
  • Assisting legal and support staff with billing queries
  • Applying VAT rules for non-UK billing

Month End

  • Running month end procedures
  • Reconciliation of nominal ledger accounts
  • Analysis of monthly credit card expenses

Other Duties

  • Assisting legal and support staff with client/supplier queries
  • Providing cover & support for other members of the team as required
  • Providing ad hoc technical support for Accounts Assistant

Education:

  • Essential – proven willingness to undertake a formal qualification (ATI)
  • Desirable - ATI Qualified (or part qualified and working towards qualification) or formal Accounts training
  • Essential - 5 years credit Finance experience within last 8 years
  • Essential – Must be currently working in a busy transactional role
  • Desirable - experience working within a financially regulated environment
  • Desirable – experience working within a professional services environment
  • Desirable – experience innovating and improving financial processes

Planning & Environmental Solicitor

Due to a substantial growth in major instructions there is now an opportunity to join the leading Planning & Environmental team in Northern Ireland.

Established over two decades ago, Carson McDowell’s Planning & Environmental Law Team acts for leading private sector companies, institutions, public sector bodies and entrepreneurs advising on a diverse range of work including:

  • Judicial reviews of planning and environmental decisions;
  • Coordinating major planning applications;
  • Representation at planning appeals and public inquiries;
  • Corporate due diligence;
  • Drafting planning agreements;
  • Energy law;
  • Waste law;
  • Contaminated land law;
  • Environmental Regulation;
  • Nuisance law; and
  • Planning Enforcement.

Previous experience of Planning and Environmental work is essential, ideally gained in private or public sector practice.

Finance Assistant (12 month fixed term)

FINANCE ASSISTANT

We are always on the lookout for ambitious, experienced people with plenty of energy and drive and now have two vacancies within our Finance Team, one is a permanent role and the other a 12 month fixed term contact, both positions are full time.

This role will primarily be to assist the Finance Team and will be reporting into the Financial Accountant. Duties will be varied and will encompass, but not be limited to the following:

Candidates must be able to work to a high level of accuracy and have the ability to operate across a diversity of tasks. Experience of a computerised accounts package is desirable.
