Energy Briefing: Contestability and issues regarding building your own grid connection

Friday 17th October 2014,  12pm - 2.15pm. The Private Dining Room,  James Street South, Belfast.

This lunchtime briefing will explore the key issues to consider in relation to the introduction of contestability in Northern Ireland. The Utility Regulator issued a call for evidence on contestability in connections on 9 September 2014 and will host a workshop on 29 October 2014. The Regulator has also indicated that she will issue a consultation paper before the end of the year.

Speakers & topics

Dorit McCann, Associate in the Energy and Renewables Team at Carson McDowell.

Dorit will give a brief introduction to contestability and introduce the speakers.

Tanya Hedley, Director of Compliance and Network Operations, Utility Regulator.

Tanya will share her thoughts on the issues to be resolved before contestability can be moved forward in Northern Ireland. She will explore what contestability means in practice and seek views on how it should be introduced in Northern Ireland.

Seamus Hegarty, Senior Development and Project Manager at Energia Renewables.

Seamus will consider the implications upon development of contestability and the present difficulties that developers face until such time as contestability is introduced.
