Planning...The transition to local government
30 September 2014
Practice Area: Planning Law
Tuesday 30th September, Europa Hotel, Belfast
This half day seminar sponsored by Carson McDowell will examine issues around the reform of planning in Northern Ireland. With the 11 new Councils set to take responsibility for planning powers from 1st April 2015, the new Councillors who have just been elected in the recent Council elections will see a major increase in their workload with regard to planning. The transfer of most planning functions to new district councils does not just involve the redistribution of functions but includes the creation of a new planning system for Northern Ireland, requiring new roles, responsibilities and relationships for all those involved in the planning process. The objective of the seminar will be to focus on the implementation of the new planning process in local government.
Gary McGhee, Partner and Head of Planning and Environmental Law at Carson McDowell will be delivering a talk entitled, 'Legal responsibilities of councillors when deciding planning applications'.
