Practice Area: Corporate - M&A

Belfast-headquartered SHS Group, which owns WKD, Bottlegreen and Shloer brands, has acquired international ignition supplier Standard Brands (UK).

The deal for the Surrey business has added the Zip and Sunny Jim brands to SHS' existing portfolio.

The acquisition means the company, which was established in 1975 and also distributes the likes of Jordans, Ryvita, Nivea, Finish and Mars Drinks, now employs a workforce of 880.

Carson McDowell advised SHS Group on the acquisition, with partner and joint head of corporate, Richard Gray, believes the deal will expand its reach in core markets abroad.

"The SHS Group is a fantastic example of Northern Ireland company which takes a strategic and ambitious approach to its growth locally, nationally and internationally," he added. "Today's announcement is an example of the SHS Group's drive to succeed and we are delighted to have advised the company in relation to this deal."

Contracts for the transaction have been exchanged, with completion subject to clearance by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
