Carson McDowell and CBI Host Competition Law Briefing

24 May 2013

Practice Area: EU and Competition

On 23rd May, Carson McDowell partnered with CBI Northern Ireland to deliver a lunch briefing on the relevance of competition law to businesses in Northern Ireland.

Delivering presentations at the lunchtime briefing were Dorit McCann, EU & Competition lawyer at Carson McDowell; Margaret Gray, a leading barrister with Brick Court Chambers and Ingrid Bukovics from the Office of Fair Trading.

The event was designed to help explain some of the most common breaches of current competition legislation, such as anti-competitive agreements, abuse of a dominant position and price relationship agreements.

Speaking about the event, Dorit McCann said; “Today’s event highlighted the relevance of competition law to businesses operating in Northern Ireland, regardless of their size and the sector in which they operate. A key message arising from the briefing is the need for companies to take a pro-active approach to competition law, whether in terms of putting in place effective competition law compliance programmes or being aware of their competitors’ conduct in the market place.”
