Asbestos Risk in the 21st Century

Tuesday, 8th April 2014 from 8am - 9.30am, The Assembly Room, Fitzwilliam Hotel, Belfast.

This briefing will examine some of the significant changes in asbestos legislation and practice which have emerged over recent years in response to an alarming increase in asbestos death rates.


Prof. Roger Willey, Managing Director at ACS Physical Risk Control.Professor Willey has over 35 years' experience in asbestos and related hazards, as well as wider health and safety and environmental issues. In addition to acting as an Expert Witness, he spends much of his time speaking at conferences and presenting seminars on asbestos and risk management.  Professor Willey’s presentation will focus on the risks associated with asbestos; legal duties to manage asbestos; and categories of asbestos removal/remediation works.

Ashleigh Birkett, Associate in the Health and Safety Team at Carson McDowell.Since her qualification in 2005, Ashleigh has specialised in health and safety law and compliance and presents regularly on a range of health and safety related topics.  She will examine local asbestos related prosecutions which have been brought in recent years by HSENI.
