Farm Safety Week 2022
28 July 2022
The event, which took place across the UK, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, highlighted a number of issues including raising awareness of child safety on farms; encouraging the farming community to take steps to manage their mental wellbeing; and urging farmers to embrace advances in technology that make farming safer.
The FSP also highlighted a recent report entitled Farm fatalities in Northern Ireland agriculture: What fifty years of data tell us produced by Agri-Food Biosciences Institute (AFBI). The report confirmed the agricultural industry as one of the most hazardous sectors in terms of fatal accidents. It demonstrated that fatalities involving vehicles and equipment were the primary cause of farm fatalities but have been steadily decreasing. Conversely, incidents involving animals show an increasing trend over the observed time period.
As affiliate members of the Farm Safety Partnership scheme, Carson McDowell is keen to support the FSP in conveying these key safety messages to the farming community. We have a dedicated Food and Agriculture team including specialists that can advise in relation to health and safety law.
