Last week Carson McDowell had the pleasure of hosting students from the Ulster University as part of their Summer Insight Programme. The three day event included several group exercises and workshops created to develop and enhance skills such as commercial and tactical awareness, negotiation, verbal and non-verbal communication, and teamwork.
The programme was designed to assist in developing transferable skills and enhancing employability, whilst giving students the opportunity to engage with Carson McDowell and spend time in different areas of the firm. Two teams of students interacted with people of all levels within Carson McDowell and later conducted a presentation outlining their legal advice to a fictional client using real life scenarios. A number of exercises tested the students’ commercial awareness and hopefully inspired them for future legal careers.
Partner at Carson McDowell, Jacqueline McAleese said: “The three day programme with the Ulster University has been a fantastic opportunity to engage with students and provide an insight into what it is like to work for a leading law firm in Northern Ireland. Speaking with lawyers in a variety of practice areas, the students were able to learn how to provide clients with full-service support and ask important questions for their future legal careers. Overall, this has been a great programme with an excellent and intelligent group of students.”
