Ashleigh Birkett - Senior Associate
Ashleigh Birkett obtained a degree in Common and Civil Law with French (LLB honours) from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2002. She moved to London to complete the Legal Practice Course at BBP Law School before commencing a training contract with Eversheds LLP in Birmingham in September 2003.
Upon qualification in 2005, Ashleigh remained with Eversheds, joining the business compliance and enforcement team. Ashleigh advised and represented companies and individuals facing investigations by regulatory bodies including the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and local authorities.
Ashleigh has also provided a considerable amount of compliance advice including policy reviews and legal audits. She has regularly conducted seminars and training on topics such as: corporate manslaughter; crisis management; proactive health and safety management; and managing contractors.
Ashleigh also has experience of trading standards and consumer protection law and a particular specialism in food law. Ashleigh has provided technical food law advice in addition to defending companies that are facing investigation and prosecution for breach of food safety and hygiene legislation.
Upon returning to Northern Ireland in August 2012, Ashleigh spent a short time practising in the litigation department at another leading firm in Belfast before joining the healthcare team at Carson McDowell as an associate in April 2013. Ashleigh regularly acts on the instructions of medical defence organisations and insurers in relation to regulatory matters involving doctors, dentists and pharmacists. She also provides compliance advice in relation to a range of healthcare law matters including complaints, risk management and other enforcement action.
