Ashleigh Birkett - Senior Associate
Ashleigh Birkett obtained a degree in Common and Civil Law with French (LLB honours) from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2002. She moved to London to complete the Legal Practice Course at BBP Law School before training and practising with a leading international law firm in Birmingham between 2003 and 2012.
Upon returning to Northern Ireland, Ashleigh joined the Litigation department at Carson McDowell as an Associate in April 2013 and became Senior Associate in May 2017.
Ashleigh regularly advises and represents companies and individuals facing investigations by regulatory bodies including the Health and Safety Executive and local authorities.
Ashleigh has also provided a considerable amount of compliance advice as well as seminars and training on topics such as: corporate manslaughter; leading health and safety at work; and managing mental health in the workplace.
Ashleigh has experience of other areas of business regulation including environmental law, trading standards and consumer protection law and food law. She has provided technical food law advice in addition to defending companies that are facing investigation and prosecution for breach of food safety and hygiene legislation.
Ashleigh is an Executive Committee member of the Northern Ireland Safety Group and, in January 2020, was elected to serve as Chair. She is also a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association.
